~1, 2, done~

I'm sure you remember seeing this room before.
In a magazine, in blog land... What's fun though, at least to me, is to see how this room started.
Pretty ordinary, wouldn't you say?

Here starts the layering process.

Adding, taking away, adding some more.

It's fun to see such a boring space take shape right before your eyes!

~diy Christmas ornaments~

This is a really easy and fun project.
Cody and I made these the other night. Here is what you will need:
an assortment of scrabble letters and some scrabble trays.
You will also need a saw,
I forgot to put that in the picture.
hot glue gun
twine or ribbon
drill with a small drill bit

Start by making your words.
We chose to use Christmas or winter themed words,
but also did some that say, "mom" and "dad"
Cody came up with all the words.
Who knew this would be an educational craft project?
After you place the words on the tray, mark with a pencil,
take letters off, and cut the tray to size.
I used a chop saw so I had to sand the edges, but you could also use a hand saw.

Then all you have to do is hot glue the letters in place!
I used a drill with a small drill bit to drill 2 holes in the center top of each tray.
Then I added a bit of hot glue and black twine in each whole to secure.

You could use colorful ribbon too.

In about an hour we had over 30 ornaments!

It was fun, easy, and it will be a unique hand crafted item to add to our tree!

~black friday randomness~

My day started early.
I got up at 5 am to hit the stores and get all my Christmas shopping done.
Here is how it went down.
Walk into Kohl's at 5:30.
5:30~6:00 am, fill my cart {or bag rather because they were out of carts}
6:00 am, wonder why all these people are stopped in the middle of the store.
6:02 am, figure out that it is because they are in line, a really long line.
Like so long, I never did find the end of it.
6:02 and a half~ditch the cart and walk over to Target.
Once at Target I was finding it hard to maneuver my cart because of the people standing in line, which circled the store twice and went up and down isles.
Before actually shopping I did find someone who worked there
and asked them how long it would take to go through the checkout line.
2 1/2 hours minimum.
6:10~ditch the Target cart and go back to my car, drive home.
6:30~crawl back into bed and sleep in till 10.
Lesson learned, never doing that again.
It's been a super lazy day of sitting on the couch and eating fudge, fudge, and more fudge.
We did make it out this afternoon to replace our broken treadmill, kinda funny since all we did all day is eat fudge.
I think we all need days like this every now and then, my thighs don't, but I do.
I found this picture and thought it would be a cool craft project,
that's all, it's just kinda festive.
{from here}
I think tomorrow I will venture back out into the real world and do a little shopping, but for now, it's back to the couch and back to the fudge.
Hope your having a lazy couch/fudge day yourself.

~our $20 Thanksgiving table~

Use what you have.
That was my motto this year.
I think I was pretty successful.
I only spent $20 on fresh flowers.
I had these cute little bronze squirrel placecard
holders from Pottery Barn I got several years back.
I used all my vintage ironstone and silver.
I layered on the pieces, mixing and matching the patterns.
My only criteria was to stick with the creams, browns, and blacks.

I had these little vintage bottles and put
the extra clippings from my centerpieces in them.
They are scattered randomly over the table.

The acorns were off of a garland I had.
I simply pulled them apart and put them in with the greenery.

I also added pine cones for a rustic natural look.

Tarnished silver candlesticks go nicely with

the silver vintage silver platters I used as chargers.

I also added feathers to the floral arrangements.

White roses, baby's breath, ferns, and
other greenery were the only things I purchased.

The silver vases were left over from my sisters wedding 8 years ago.
The glasses are from a thrift store.

I already had the quilted cream runner.
The wine glasses with the numbers are from a Rosanna warehouse sale.

I like how monochromatic everything is, without being too dull.

Wishing you a Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and great memories!

~a lot on my plate~

Hello friends, and happy almost Thanksgiving!
I had a long post planned for today, but seeing as how we are hosting Thanksgiving tomorrow, and I still have a ton to do, this post will be short and sweet!
{I'm gonna try and come back with photos of my table...} Do you ever see something and think, "why didn't I think of that?"
That's how I felt when I saw this silver tray turned magnetic display board!
Now this is one thing I am definitely going to copy!
And speaking of unique things, does anyone know when Target is going to get another shipment of John Derian? I missed out on his first round of things and don't want to miss out again!
Have a great holiday and stay safe!

~oranges + cloves = fragrant Christmas pomanders~

Here is a simple potpourri project you can do with your kids.
Not only do these smell great, but they are good looking too!
We are planning on making them this afternoon.
It's snowing outside,
we just finished homemade hot chocolate,
and are all cozy by the fire.
This is the perfect project for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Once the entire orange is covered in cloves, you can gently roll it in ground cinnamon or a pumpkin pie spice mixture for an enhanced scent.
Make sure you choose an orange with a thin skin, otherwise you might have to use a needle to prick the design in first.
Another idea is to "write" a letter with the cloves to spell out Thanksgiving or Christmas words like, "thanks, give, joy" etc.
Place the oranges down the center of your table for an easy display.
Have fun!

~a bit of orange~

Hello friends!
I hope you are all having a relaxing and fun Saturday!
I have been busy the last few days giving my kitchen a mini makeover!
I promise to show pictures soon!
How do you feel about orange in interiors?
I think if it's used as an accent color like in this beautiful home,
it can be quite lovely.

Besides the orange,
I adore those painted cabinets and shiny wood floor!

But this fabric takes the cake!
I think I have a new found love of fabrics....

Couple things real quick.
Don't forget to enter the Cabbages & Roses giveaway below if you haven't already.
I'd also like to welcome our newest sponsor,
If you are interested in sponsoring on this site, send me a quick email and I will get back to you asap with the details!

~my finished pillows~

I made 2 pillows last night out of my new fabric.

I love how they turned out, the colors are fantastic!

I added this little ruffle detail to the fronts of them out

of a dishtowel I picked up at a craft store yesterday.

The colors just happen to match perfectly!

I had the pottery barn down inserts already, so this project

{2 pillows}

only cost me around $20.00

I hope you all are having a wonderful day!
It's pouring down rain here and I am home for the next few days refinishing my kitchen floors!
Wish me luck, I've never done this before!
xoxo
