Starcraft II

StarCraft II a military science fiction real-time strategy video games currently under development by Blizzard Entertainment. It features the return of the three races from the original game—Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. StarCraft II is also designed to focus more heavily on the multiplayer aspect, when compared to the original StarCraft. The Terran campaign replaced the original StarCraft briefing room with an interactive version of the battlecruiser Hyperion, with Jim Raynor, now a bitter and hard-drinking mercenary captain, as the central character. In a departure from previous Blizzard games, the campaign is non-linear, with Raynor taking jobs for money and using that money to buy additional units and upgrades. Although each play through will vary, the end result will remain consistent keeping the storyline linear. The Terran campaign, Wings of Liberty, will place players in a mercenary style campaign, as Terran rebel Jim Raynor performs missions for cash. The second release, the Zerg campaign Heart of the Swarm, will have RPG elements. The player will level up the Queen of Blades, Kerrigan, throughout the missions. The last expansion, the Protoss campaign Legacy of the Void, the dark templar Zeratul will have to employ diplomacy between Protoss tribes to acquire units and technologies for each mission. Each campaign should span 26-30 missions. StarCraft II features approximately the same number of units as the original game. Some units from the original game are returning, some featuring new upgrades and abilities. StarCraft II is being developed for concurrent release on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X. According to Blizzard Entertainment, predicts the Starcraft II game will be released at the end of 2009, although a specific release date has not yet been given.

Hong Kong Refocuses on Design

Hong Kong aims to be Asia's fashion center, but the Chinese territory has seen a big drop in clothing exports as the global economic crisis drags on. Now, the government is stepping in to stimulate the local fashion industry.

Hong Kong's Fashion Week features the usual parade of models on catwalks showing the latest designs, many of which end up in stores worldwide a year later. But as the global economic crisis lingers, exports of Hong Kong fashions are down more than 75 percent for January through April, from a year ago.

Felix Chung is chairman of the Hong Kong Apparel Society. He says that in the past, Hong Kong was a manufacturing center, but factories moved north to mainland China where costs are lower.

"All the manufacturers are changing their business model, from traditional manufacturing to design and manufacturing," said Chung. "They decided Hong Kong is the only city that has the ability to be the Asia Fashion capital."

Hong Kong's twice-a-year fashion weeks are mostly trade shows - bringing buyers and sellers together. In cities such as Paris and New York, fashion weeks are crammed with runway shows - where high-priced designers show off their work to celebrities and fashion journalists as well as to buyers.

Chung says Hong Kong needs more runways shows to put the focus on designers.

But runway shows, with their models, music and lights, cost thousands of dollars. Designers sometimes seek sponsors to offset the price.

Hair, makeup, shoe and accessory companies sponsored some designers at Hong Kong's recent spring/summer 2010 event. On the catwalks, designers showed slim-cut pants and bold-shouldered jackets and tops mostly in red, blue, purple, gold, white or black. Some garments had elements of traditional Asian clothing, while others were more like fanciful costumes.

Some designers at the Hong Kong Fashion Week say they are cutting their clothes more for Asian customers, who tend to be shorter and slimmer than Westerners.

Grace Lam, senior fashion style editor of Vogue magazine in China, says domestic demand for locally designed garments is slowly rebounding. And she says designs from China and Hong Kong are starting to get known around the world.

"It has got its own statement with its own history, obviously a very long history, but I think street-wise they're still influenced by Europeans or by Americans' labels," said Lam. "And they like to wear the labels a lot."

Government put $1.3 million to promote fashion business

Even so, the global economic slowdown has undermined sales of Hong Kong and Chinese fashions.

To reinvigorate the fashion industry, the Hong Kong government says it will spend $1.3 million on promoting city's creativity.

This includes putting on a reality TV show centered on a design competition, similar to the popular U.S. show, Project Runway.

Hong Kong's newest crop of designers is at the forefront as fashion becomes more driven by entertainment.

Among them is Max Lam, who studies at the Hong Kong Design Institute. He won the Creativity Award at a recent student fashion show. He also published a glossy magazine, featuring his makeup, styling and design work.

During the recent student show, Mr. Lam strutted the catwalk with his model, taking bows and reveling in the limelight.

His model was painted black and wore a tiny black bikini top, a red wire skirt and platform shoes. Black banners embroidered in red silk draped over each of her arms. Mr. Lam says he styled his model's hair and makeup like a character in a Chinese opera.

"Because my design, this has come from China. You can see it is China style," he said. "The Chinese cage is a bird cage. My theme is constraint."

Even though Hong Kong's fashion industry is in a slump, Felix Chung, the Apparel Society chairman, says all of the city's graduating fashion students this year are finding jobs because of the new emphasis on design.

Science Fiction Film: District 9

District 9 depicts a fictional world where extraterrestrials have become refugees in South Africa. Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa’s District 9 as the world’s nations argued over what to do with them. Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens’ welfare – they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens’ awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA. The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable – he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9. The film is starring Jason Cope, Robert Hobbs and Sharlto Copley. Directed by Neill Blomkamp and produced by Peter Jackson. It is scheduled for a release on August 14, 2009.

The Newly Google Chrome OS

The new operating system, named Google Chrome OS, will be an open-source operating system initially geared toward netbooks. Google claims the new operating system, which should ship on netbooks starting in the second half of next year, will be "lightweight" and heavily Web-centric. With Google Chrome OS, Google plans to follow the same formula it used with its browser: Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform. While Google Chrome OS goes beyond being a mere Web browser, Google's vision of the future is as clear with Chrome OS as it was with the introduction of the Chrome browser. The Web is the OS of the future, and a modern OS needs to be built around the Web first.

Determining the relative intelligence of a bird is difficult. What do we mean by intelligence? Experts often think of intelligence in terms of creative abilities used to solve problems. Some scientists believe that tool-using birds show such abilities. The woodpecker finch of the Galapagos Islands, for example, has learned to use a cactus spine or small twig as a probe to remove carpenter bee larvae from their tunnels. While most studies suggest that song and its use are genetically programmed, studies of the African gray parrot suggest a great deal of learning. This parrot is sometimes described as being as intelligent as a three- or four-year-old child. Comparative studies of intelligence among birds are in their infancy. Thus naming the most intelligent bird at this point would be highly speculative. However, parrots and crows may be good candidates.

TESDA Computer Hardware Servicing Exam (NC-II)

Computer Hardware Servicing NC-II (National Certificate - Level 2) Exam is a TESDA program that examines the students about their knowledge both in hardware and software of the computer. The computer technician students are the one taking this exam. I’m a computer system and network technology student in AMA Computer Learning Center. Just last June 30, 2009 I took the examination and passed the Computer Hardware Servicing NC-II exam. I can say that since I saw the remarks of the examiner which was all ok. The exam has 6 project or parts, 1st project is you will state the 6 Occupational Health Safety, 2nd you will disassemble the parts of the CPU and check and list all the materials, tools and equipment that is needed, 3rd is you will now assemble the computer, 4th after the computer is assemble you will now install the Operating System but first make a partition and you are going to installed a dual boot system using win98 and win2000, 5th you will make straight trough cable for networking using the UTP cat5e cable and RJ-45, network the computers, share the printer and print, and make a back-up, and 6th project is the question and answer portion. The question is all about software and hardware of the computer and troubleshooting. That's it, you'll have a chance to pass in Computer Hardware Servicing NC-II exam.

The Toy Story 3 Movie

Toy Story 3 is an upcoming animated 3-D film being produced by Pixar Animation Studios, slated for release on June 18, 2010. It is a sequel to the films Toy Story and Toy Story 2. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz respectively. Woody, Buzz, and the rest of their toy box friends are dumped in a children's day-care center when their owner, Andy (now a young adult) departs for college. On the first Toy Story movie, Woody became Andy's favorite toy, a puppet version of him starred in a TV show called "Woody's Roundup" which also included the characters Bullseye the horse, Jessie the yodeling cowgirl, and Stinky Pete the prospector. Buzz Lightyear is first seen as a birthday gift for Andy. Eventually Buzz and Woody meet up and through a series of incidents, Buzz comes first to realize that he is, in fact, a toy. With encouragement from Woody, he gradually comes to accept the situation. He teams up with Woody to escape Sid, and together, they are able to reunite with Andy and the other toys. And Woody and Buzz Lightyear become best friends. So, this is the history of two toys who become good friends.

Marquez will have something to prove to all that his still the best and whether Marquez is worthy of the hall-of-fame would be put to rest and the third bout with Manny to reclaim that he’s the best ever.
